Celtic Legend are a group of composers, writers, musicians and film makers who were formed in 2001 by Cornish born composer Chris Payne. The idea behind the project is to recreate ancient dark age legends through recordings and videos. Emily Ovenden, who is also a member of the Classical No.1 selling Mediaeval Baebes, is the lead singer and co-writer of Celtic Legend's breathtaking new album Lyonesse. Inspired by the tragic love story of Tristan and Isolde this stunning recording captures the real essence of this beautiful 6th Century Cornish legend.

A Celtic musical version of this tale with beautiful melodies that are both passionate and energetic and which envelop the listener in a wonderful landscape of dark age England.Tristan, as knight and nephew of King Mark of Cornwall. is entrusted with the task of going to Ireland to escort Princess Isolde back to Cornwall as the Kings betrothed.On the journey back, they fall in love after drinking a herbal potion. Isolde fulfils her vows of marriage to the King but remains in love with Tristan and their illicit love affair continues. When King Mark discovers the truth he forgives Isolde but banishes Tristan from the Kingdom. He travels to Brittany where he meets and marries Iseult of the white hands, but never consummated the marriage because of his continued love for Isolde. The story ends with Tristan having been mortally wounded sending for Isolde in a hope that she will cure his wounds. However, as a result of a treacherous lie by Iseult of the white hands Tristan dies of grief before Isolde can reach him, and Isolde dies soon after of a broken heart.

The recording of Tristan and Isolde took just over a year to write and record before being expertly mixed and mastered by renowned sound engineer Nigel Bates, and features instruments such as Violins, Irish whistles, Uillean pipes, Kena, Crumhorns, Baroque recorders, Acoustic guitars, Lutes, Cornamuse,and Mandolin.

This recording features artists such as Deirdre Gilsenan from Anuna, Celtic Tenors and Lord of the Dance, Gwenno Saunders from Lord of the Dance and Riverdance. Arthur Brown, Kingdom Come, Peter Sarstedt, Irish actor Patrick Bergin, Chris Payne, Franck Hemard, Jim Carey and Francis Calavia.
